Craig Copland

Craig Copland

Craig is a native of Toronto, Canada and now divides his time between there and his beloved Mid-Town East, Manhattan. He did his undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate studies in Toronto and New York State and then enjoyed a varied career in environmental education, directing youth camps, working in international humanitarian aid, and serving as a marketing and management consultant. Over the years he visited “100 countries, but then I stopped counting” and served as a volunteer and professional consultant to many political and non-profit organizations and campaigns.

For a long time he confesses that he was “more or less liberal” but, like many others “got mugged by reality and turned right.” In addition to writing about conservative politics, he and his firm, Conservative Growth Inc., provide seminars and consulting services in campaign management and fundraising.

When he got involved in conservative political campaigns he says, “I tried to find a single volume book that told conservative how to run and win elections. I couldn’t find one, so I wrote it.”

Craig is the blessed father of three wonderful daughters and three “gorgeous, perfect grandchildren.” His favorite pastimes include hanging out with family, reading and writing, canoeing, theater and galleries, and engaging in political skirmishes. In addition to writing handbooks for conservative politicians he writes essays and blogs about current political issues, the arts, book and theater reviews and local politics. His opinions on those issues can be found at www.craigcopland.ca.

Time to End the Circular Firing Squad

As I write this the Wisconsin Primary has just ended. Mitt Romney is now well ahead in the delegate count and cannot be beaten. It's time to end the competition, close ranks, and get behind the inevitable nominee. In this process there is a clear lesson for conservatives mounting election campaigns at every level. Learn that lesson . . .please!

Do Not Write Off Trade Unionists

Trade unionists are all liberals and all vote Democrat. Right? Wrong! The union bosses may be died-in-the-wool liberals but that does not mean that the rank-and-file are. What's going on here?

The Jewish Vote is Moving Right

In 2008 those voters who identified themselves as "Jewish" voted 78% for Obama, the largest ethnic/religious vote after African-Americans to do so. That preference is changing quickly. Jewish voters are moving right.

How Did Mitt Beat the Street?

Immediately prior to the Florida primary the latest polls were predicting the Mitt Romney would take 40% - 43% of the vote. He ended up with just under 47%. How did he beat the street?
Having a temper tantrum in response to a cheap shot is bad. Showing controlled outrage and righteous indignation is good. Newt Gingrich's response to John King of CNN was brilliant.
